The Executive Director of the Recovery Institute of Southwest Michigan says recovery is possible. Sean Harris says the 4th annual Recovery and Wellness Fair can show people what resources are available.

Correction: In an earlier version of the article, Gabbie Obiya's name was misspelled.

The fair is being held Thursday September 20th from 11:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. in Bronson Park.

The Recovery Institute’s Office Manager Gabbie Obiya says the theme of this year’s fair is Freedom in Recovery. (Note: an earlier verison of the article said "Freedom and Recovery") She says recovery can appear daunting. But Obiya says it also means freedom from the problems associated with mental illness and addiction.

Harris says a “one size fits all approach” doesn’t work for mental health treatment. He says everyone responds to treatment differently. That’s why Harris says options are important. He says many forms of treatment can be covered by insurance and Medicaid. But Harris says it can be complex and help can be found to navigate the process.

Obiya says the fair can also help make it more acceptable for people to seek help for mental illness. She says every year they hope to grow the fair in future years. Obya says there is entertainment so the fair “is not just helpful, it’s fun.”
