Update: WMUK on, but Western's main campus closed until 10 am

WMUK

We're back on the air! So are our streaming services for WMUK-1, WMUK-2 and Park & Westnedge. Power has returned to all of the Kalamazoo campus of Western Michigan University as well, where we are housed. Classes are delayed until 10 a.m., however. And Consumers Energy continues to work on power outages elsewhere in the city.

Station volunteers for the 7 - 9:30 am pledge drive should NOT report this morning.

Listeners can continue to make online pledges at WMUK.org.

WMU has announced a two-hour delay—until 10 a.m.—for the start of classes and normal business office hours on Tuesday, March 27.  The delay does not include the University's College of Aviation campus in Battle Creek or any of its regional locations. They will operate as normal.

Area media is reporting that strong winds brought down a Consumers Energy power pole overnight, knocking out power to the campus as well as neighborhoods in the Northside, Westwood and Kalamazoo Township areas. Consumers crews have been working on the issue, and WMU campus crews have initiated the process of activating the University's backup power source.
