City candidates file for November election

WMUK

There will be 15 names on the ballot for Kalamazoo City Commission this fall. Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to file papers for the November General Election. The candidates that met that deadline include all but one of the seven members of the current commission. The exception is Vice-Mayor Hannah McKinney who announced earlier that she would not seek another term.

There are six candidates running for three seats on the Portage City Council. They include two incumbents and one former Council member. Portage Mayor Pete Strazdas will run unopposed this fall. Councilman Ed Sackley is not seeking re-election. The Council is expected to appoint someone to replace former councilwoman Elizabeth Campbell who resigned suddenly on Tuesday for "personal reasons". Her term expires in 2015.

Eighteen people have filed to run for the Battle Creek City Commission this fall. They include eight of the nine current commissioners. Vice-Mayor Elizabeth Fulton is not seeking a new term. There will be four “at large” Commission seats and five ward seats on the ballot in Battle Creek in November.
