Officials at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources say tests have not turned up any evidence for the presence of Asian carp in the Kalamazoo River. The invasive species has moved up the Mississippi River to Chicago. Traces of "environmental DNA" from the fish have been found in Lake Michigan beyond an electronic barrier in the Chicago Ship Canal designed to keep them out of the Great Lakes.

The DNR says other rivers flowing into Lake Michigan are also being monitored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for signs of carp DNA.
