WMU Trustees Raise Tuition 3.2%

WMUK

Western Michigan University Trustees have approved a tuition increase for the fall.

The board approved an increase of 3.2% in tuition. Chairman Jim Hettinger said trustees were trying to hit a "moving target" while the state budget is being finalized.

Western President John Dunn says the increase will leave Western around the 10th most expensive of the state's 15 public universities. He says that depends in part on how much other schools raise tuition.  Dunn says of the state's five "research" universities, Western has "by far the lowest tuition."

Trustees also approved the university's operating budget for the next fiscal year. The $378-million spending plan increases revenues and expenditures by 2.8%
