State Democrats Asked to Shut Down Online Absentee Voter Program

WMUK

The Department of state has asked the Michigan Democratic Party to end its online program to request an absentee ballot.

A letter from Elections Director Chris Thomas says state technology staff found numerous security problems with the online program. The Gongwer News Service reports that Thomas also cited concerns about absentee ballot applications going to the wrong clerk or not showing up at all.

Michigan Democratic Party Chairman Lon Johnson said in a statement that many changes have been made to the program, and the party plans to keep it online.

Gordon Evans became WMUK's Content Director in 2019 after more than 20 years as an anchor, host and reporter. A 1990 graduate of Michigan State, he began work at WMUK in 1996.
