Producer, Composer, Musician Stratøs Releases Wide-Ranging 'Planets'

Olivia Feldman

Planets, a journey of sound and concept from Mercury to Pluto, is the creation of Stratøs, the producer name for multidisciplinary artist Eddie Codrington. He tells Cara Lieurance about the process of writing and finishing the album in four months, with creative input from guest artists like Julia Moffa, David Binney, John Hébert, and Alex Mansour.

Ranging from the ordinary human sounds of acoustic piano, flute, voice and saxophone to waves of layered, distorted and altered electronica, Codrington says the planetary theme helped unify a large work through 10 individual, very different tracks. Several are shaped by the personalities of guest collaborators. They listen to "Venus," "Mars" "Saturn" and "Neptune," as Codrington explains a few of the thousands of decisions he made in his home studio as he shaped the album.
