Since moving out of Studio 246 in Kalamazoo, Fancy Pants Theater has been looking for a new home. And they’ve finally found one…sort of.
It’s a 1978 Argosy motorhome. Theater members plan to drive it around town and perform live theater.
Last Friday, the troupe recited Shakespeare in Kalamazoo’s Vine Neighborhood.
When I last spoke with Fancy Pants Executive Director Carol Zombro, she said the theater was considering several new brick-and-mortar locations.
Zombro says they bought the motorhome because they simply couldn't wait for a new place.
"We didn't want to sit around for a year not doing anything," Zombro says. "And so this gives us the opportunity to have...really to have our tour. And it wasn't something we ever thought that we would do, but the opportunity made itself known and we just took it."
Zombro says the troupe will be performing all around town. So check their Twitter and Facebook accounts for updates. They'll also be wearing neon t-shirts with a headshot of William Shakespeare.
The Argosy has a '70s retro interior, with puffy orange captains chairs and an avocado green floor.
Zombro says they'll be using the non-functional bathroom as an actor's confessional, where they'll videotape their thoughts after performances.
Fancy Pants will be at Upjohn Park on May 10th at 6 p.m. and will be holding events in honor of Kalamazoo Pride on June 8th.
Zombro says they're still looking for a permanent theater space, but for now, it's home sweet motorhome.
