There will be a total lunar eclipse early Wednesday morning and a partial solar eclipse on October 23rd.
The Lunar Eclipse
When: Wednesday, October 8th around 5:15 a.m.
What To Look For: The moon will turn a red or copper color as it moves into the Earth's shadow. With a telescope or binoculars, you may be able to time out how long it takes the shadow to reach the end of a crater on the moon and get an idea of how large that crater is.
Eye Gear: None needed
Other Info: Since the eclipse is early on a Wednesday, the Kalamazoo Astronomical Society will not be hosting a watch party.

The Solar Eclipse
When: Thursday, October 23rd around 5:00 p.m.
What To Look For: Watch the moon block out part of the sun.
Eye Gear: Buy protective eclipse glasses, welder's goggles (shade 14 or higher), or a telescope with the right solar filter to protect your eyes from the sun's rays.
Other Info: The eclipse will be very low in the sky, so find a spot on the lakeshore to see it. The Kalamazoo Astronomical Society's watch party will take place at Warren Dunes State Park.
