Pianist Ivana Gavric makes Gilmore Rising Star debut

Sussie Ahlberg

Fresh off her U.S. debut in Washington, DC last week, pianist Ivana Gavric visits WMUK to talk about her Gilmore Rising Stars Series recital this Sunday at 4 pm in the Wellspring Theatre of the Epic Center in Kalamazoo.

In a conversation with host Cara Lieurance, Ms. Gavric, who at age 11 moved from Bosnia to Great Britain, tells of how music played an important role in adjusting to a new language and culture. She speaks eloquently on the music of Leos Janacek and of Edvard Grieg, whose music is the subject of her most recent studio release

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
