Tia Fuller celebrates 'Angelic Warrior' within

Tiafuller.com

Fontana Chamber Arts will feature one of today's young jazz stars tomorrow night. Tia Fuller is balancing careers as a professor of music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, as a hired soloist for Beyonce's touring group, and as bandleader, composer, and recording artist.

She grew up in a family of jazz musicians, studied classical piano and flute, and, like her older sister, eventually chose jazz as her profession. She introduces tomorrow night's lineup, and outlines the different requirements of touring with her own project and touring as featured saxophonist in pop artist Beyonce's ensemble. Angelic Warrior is her fourth solo album. It features performances by her sister, pianist ShamieRoyston, and her brother-in-law, drummer Rudy Royston.

Cara Lieurance is the local host of NPR's All Things Considered on 1021 WMUK and covers local arts & culture on Let's Hear It on 89.9 Classical WMUK weekday mornings at 10 - 11 am.
