Join us for a 6-week course exploring the twelve principles of permaculture design. Each week the class will dive into two principles, blending thoughtful discussion with hands-on practice in a living garden installation at Tillers International. Skills will vary based on garden needs and weather, but will include multiple fall bed preparation methods, mapping and planning, tool maintenance, and more!

This class is open to everyone—whether it’s your first broom or your fiftieth. Beginners will get the chance to learn and explore, while more experienced makers can dive into creative techniques and artistic flourishes. Experimentation and exchanging ideas are encouraged in this exploration of the hand broom.

Join us in October for an Art Detectives program centered around Resilience—A Sansei Sense of Legacy. This exhibition features the work of eight third-generation Asian American Artists whose work reflects on a time during World War II when Japanese American families were forced to leave their homes and live in internment camps. We'll read Write to Me: Letters from Japanese American Children to the Librarian They Left Behind, view the exhibition, and create our own postcards that can be sent to friends or family members.

"Join us for a Community Day focused on our special exhibition, Resilience—A Sansei Sense of Legacy. This show highlights artwork by eight Sansei (third-generation Japanese American) artists exploring the lasting effects of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the forced imprisonment of Japanese Americans during World War II.

We invite the community to visit the exhibition and explore the stories shared in Resilience. Visitors will also be able to participate in a hands-on art activity, available between 11am-1:30pm, and tell their own stories through a storyboarding activity in the library. This event is free and open to all."

Song of the Alvar is an improvisational ensemble based around the Arabic tunings and rhythmic patterns of the oud. Featuring Mike Weis (Zelienople) on percussion, Ike Turner (Kalamazoo Drone Society) on percussion and guitar, Peter Kaiafas (Orpheus X, Middle Eastern Music Ensemble) on oud and Brian Harding (Zelienople) on reeds, this concert will be the fifth annual presentation of our "In a Landscape" series.

Attendees should meet at the tennis courts behind the Maple Street YMCA. As the audience will be walking to a location without seating, we recommend wearing appropriate footwear and bringing a portable chair. The hike to the performance location takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

A $10 cash suggested donation per person will be accepted on-site.
