Pianist Jeremy Siskind presents classics, improvisations

One of the major young voices in jazz piano, Jeremy Siskind will present a solo faculty recital tonight at Western Michigan University which combines inspired pairings of works by composers from Rachmaninoff to Dizzy Gillespie in the first half.

In the second half, he'll improvise on his original works from his highly-acclaimed recordings Finger Songwriter and Simple Songs (for When the World Seems Strange)

Mr. Siskind has had a year of remarkable achievements, not the least of which was winning first prize in the Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition. He recently toured California in an intimate series of house concerts and says it's one of his favorite settings for music. He also discusses the imagery and story behind several original pieces.
