Snyder Still Confident Road Deal Can Be Reached This Year

WMUK

(MPRN-Lansing) Governor Rick Snyder says he hasn’t given up on getting a deal for more than a $1 billion dollars in new road revenue through the Legislature.

Lawmakers adjourned this week without voting on a roads package. But, at an event in Detroit, the governor said he’s still confident a deal can come together in 2015.

“We’re going to stay relentless on this project til there’s a better outcome,” he said. “We’re going to keep working. We need a good long-term solution. I hope we get something done this year. That’s clearly the goal.”

There’s no word yet on when the governor will meet next with the Legislature’s Republican leaders, or when they will bring Democrats into the discussions. There are House and Senate plans on the table, but they are very far apart on where the money would come from. Both would cut other parts of the budget to help pay for roads, but the Senate plan would also raise the gas tax by 15 cents a gallon.
