This is a beginner class for those who are interested in learning the basic skills to manipulate copper. Students begin by learning to deburr, clean and anneal copper. Basic hammer control introduces texturing. Design layout and chasing will add another skill level by introducing chisels and their unlimited uses. Students will also learn the technique of silver soldering and low relief. Finishing up with a patina finish will highlight the texturing and designs. Students will take home four class projects. These include a coupon, pencil caddie, vase and an eight-inch plate. The plate will be sunk in the center and highlighted with a low relief design.

Enjoy an afternoon of dancing in air-conditioned comfort at the Kalamazoo Ballroom Academy at 2020 Fulford Street in Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Shannon Bean will be teaching the gliding steps of the Foxtrot beginning at 2:00 p.m. Dance to current popular tunes and music hits from the past with DJ Bob Sievert from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. All levels of dancers, beginners, couples, and singles are welcome. Order up some tasty munchies, cool off with a fresh-poured Foggy Geezer Ale, and dance to Duke & The Loose Cannons! Remember, your admission, popcorn, and parking are always — free!

Again with the dancing and the eating and drinking down in Shakespeare’s Lower Level. Leonard “DUKE” Duke and his Cannons perform selections from hundreds of Jazz, R&B, Rock, Soul, and original music in their repertoire. They do this every other Monday for the enjoyment of a mighty lively group of regulars spending their Social Security checks. Crowded dance floor. Friendly staff. Free Parking. "During this virtual ArtBreak, learn more about Dulce Pinzón, whose archival pigment print Catwoman is included in the exhibition For the People, By the People. A visual artist, curator, manager, cultural entrepreneur, and activist, Pinzón is particularly interested in exploring cultural, environmental, and gender issues through her personal, curatorial, and museographic projects. Her rich educational background includes studies in communication sciences, photography, film, labor law, museum curation, and art management.

In her photography, Pinzón seeks not to capture reality as it is, but rather to “invent” a new reality, frequently referencing both high and popular culture. Her work has been exhibited, published, and collected internationally, and she has received multiple prestigious awards and nominations. Pinzón is also the founder of Plataforma ArtBase, a laboratory space for artists in Puebla, Mexico."

"Join San Francisco-based artist Julio César Morales for a performance lecture exploring the intersections of music, migration, identity, and cultural resistance. Drawing from his multidisciplinary artistic practice, Morales will examine the influence of music, underground subcultures, and hybrid cultural forms throughout the Americas. Beginning with the histories of Mambo and Cumbia and their impact on popular music in the United States, he will trace how musical genres, slogan, myths, and collective rituals shape cultural identity across borders. And be sure to wear your dancing shoes! At the conclusion of the lecture, Morales will DJ a dance party celebrating music as a powerful form of cultural expression and collective resistance.

The artistic practice of Julio César Morales employs a range of media and visual strategies to explore issues of migration, underground economies, and labor, on personal and global scales. He works by whatever means necessary, from watercolors and neon to immersive installations and reenactment. His artwork has been shown at venues internationally and is included in private and public collections across the U.S. and Europe."

Youth Mindfulness Night
Meet new friends and decompress with a night of yoga and mindfulness for nature lovers between the ages of 16-20. We’ll enjoy gentle yoga, breathe in the evening air, and leave feeling more grounded and connected to the world around us.

The first-ever Boots On The Bend festival is coming to the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds on August 14 and 15, 2026, guaranteeing two days filled with music, excitement, and Midwest summer fun.

Get your boots ready because South Bend’s biggest country party is almost here!

Come for the music, stay for the stars! The Connecting Chords Music Festival will bring live music to the Dr. T.K. Lawless County Park before an evening of stargazing on Friday, August 14.

Performing will be Festival favorites The Birdseed Salesmen, an ensemble specializing in jazz Manouche, a style of music originated by Django Reinhardt. You never quite know what you’re going to get: familiar melodies, old standards, styles from old movie soundtracks, maybe even TV themes!

Park admission is $5/car (please bring cash). Donations to the Michigan Festival of Sacred Music will be accepted.

Located in Vandalia, MI (about 50 minutes south of Kalamazoo), Lawless Park is one of only three sites in Michigan to be officially designated an International Dark Sky Park. The music program will start at 8:30 PM, and the park will remain open until 2:00 AM for stargazing!
